Preschool Program

As a child matures, his/her physical, social, emotional and cognitive capacity changes. Coordination, attention span, ability to reason and empathize with others all increase. The curriculum reflects this by including and adding to the earlier goals of our toddler program, namely: developing self confidence and esteem; developing social skills including independence in solving behavior problems, encouraging self sufficiency, and following directions; developing creativity and imagination; increasing communication, physical, cognitive and academic skills.

  • Small Motor Activities

More sophisticated cutting experiences, tracing activities, printing own name and numbers, freehand drawings, easel painting, and many manipulative toys and games.

  • Reading and Math

Our goal is kindergarten readiness. Activities to promote this readiness include: rhyming activities, sequences, classification games, discrimination games, simple cause and effect, spatial relationships, directional terms, shape identification, following directions, letter identification (upper and lower case), sound games, dot-to-dot, and environmental signs (traffic, street, etc). Also used to teach and reinforce concepts are field trips, science experiments, stories and music.

  • Small Group Activities

Includes activities in simple addition, subtraction, alphabet recognition, memory games, creative drawings, shapes, matching games, and visual discrimination. Emphasis on name reading, self sufficiency in working and cooperation in a small group of children.

  • Creativity

Acting out stories, problem solving activities, movement to music activities, art projects, and environmental changes such as dress up clothing.

  • Large Muscle

Activities include balance, coordination, creativity in movement, hopping, skipping, stamina, rhythm development, body awareness, etc. Program topics include body safety, exercise and movement, and health and nutrition.

  • Social and Emotional Development

Discussion of feelings and developing a “feeling” vocabulary, developing awareness of their body and personal space, and learning to solve problems independently with words and compromise rather than force.
